  • Last week’s Food for Thought event reminded us just how meaningful community connection truly is!

A heartfelt thank-you to Sistering for hosting such a warm and engaging evening filled with great food, important conversations, and opportunities for organizations to learn from one another. Hearing from leaders like Volletta Peters (Sistering) and Leslie Gash (Toronto Shelter Network) was a powerful reminder that we are stronger when we show up together.

Grateful to stay connected, stay involved, and continue supporting women in our community.

  • 36 years ago, 14 young women were murdered at École Polytechnique for daring to learn. We say their names — and we keep fighting.

Violence against women isn’t history: ~91% of women experiencing homelessness in Canada have survived it. At Street Haven, we see the damage every day.

  • Meet Lilly Bourani, our newest Shelter and Housing Manager!

Lilly's journey to Street Haven began when she first arrived in Canada as an immigrant. Using welcome centres and working with a case worker herself, she noticed something important—there was a real need for more services for newcomers, especially in Farsi and Arabic. That experience inspired her to start volunteering and eventually pursue her calling in social services.

"I wanted to give back," Lilly shares. Growing up in Iran, where social services for women are limited, she has always felt a strong pull towards helping women build better lives. Combined with her background in Psychology, Lilly brings both heart and expertise to her role.

For Lilly, Street Haven represents the perfect opportunity to address the challenges she once experienced as a newcomer to Toronto and to be part of an organization truly dedicated to women's wellbeing.

Welcome to the team, Lilly! We're so grateful to have you here.
