Housing Outreach

About Us

Our commitment to supporting women extends far beyond providing immediate shelter. Within our Emergency Shelter Housing Program, we offer comprehensive Housing Outreach Support to help women transition from homelessness to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

Our dedicated Housing Outreach team works closely with each woman through a personalized, one-on-one approach that meets her unique needs and circumstances. Our goal is to ensure that every woman not only finds housing — but keeps it.

What We Offer:

Street Haven’s Supportive Housing program provides permanent, affordable housing across three locations in downtown Toronto, accommodating 32 women. Each residence offers varying levels of staffing and support tailored to the residents’ individual needs. The program emphasizes recovery from trauma, mental health challenges, and substance use, encouraging residents to set personal goals, live independently, and engage actively in the community.

  • Individualized Housing Navigation :

We guide women through the complex housing system in Toronto, helping them explore and access safe, appropriate housing options — whether that’s market rent units, shared accommodations, or subsidized housing programs.

  • Landlord Advocacy & Mediation :

We act as a bridge between women and potential landlords, offering advocacy, mediation, and support to help overcome stigma and discrimination, and ensure successful tenancies.

  • Assistance with Housing Applications :

Our staff help complete applications for subsidized housing, rent supplements, and other housing programs. We ensure all paperwork is accurate, timely, and reflective of each woman’s specific needs.

  • Housing Stability Planning :

Each woman receives a customized housing stability plan that outlines strategies to maintain housing, manage financial obligations, and connect with community supports for long-term well-being.

  • Post-Shelter Outreach Support :

Our support doesn’t end when a woman leaves the shelter. Ongoing outreach services are available to help her navigate challenges, prevent eviction, and access additional supports — reinforcing her journey toward lasting independence.

Our Housing Outreach services are a vital part of Street Haven’s wraparound support model, ensuring that women transitioning from homelessness are not left behind. We work from a trauma-informed, housing-first approach, recognizing that stable housing is the foundation for recovery, healing, and empowerment.
