Every month, just over 100 women walk through our doors looking for safety. 💙 46 women at 87 Pembroke. 60 women at St. James Hotel. Each one found a safe place to sleep, a warm meal, and a moment of stability. Because everyone deserves that. Women make up 41% of Toronto shelter users but the city has only around 15 women's emergency and transitional shelters. We run at capacity. Every. Single. Month. The gap is real. The urgency is now. Healing through creativity 🎨 We recently hosted two art workshops for our residents at Grant House: one creating collage vision boards for the future, and one painting whatever came to mind. The results were full of excitement, hope, and healing. Today, on International Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate and honour the trans and gender-diverse people in our community. 💜 According to the Toronto Street Needs Assessment, the number of people experiencing homelessness who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ has nearly doubled, with more than 1 in 5 respondents identifying as 2SLGBTQ+. These numbers remind us that inclusive, affirming shelter spaces aren't just important, they are essential.
