  • Last week’s Food for Thought event reminded us just how meaningful community connection truly is!

A heartfelt thank-you to Sistering for hosting such a warm and engaging evening filled with great food, important conversations, and opportunities for organizations to learn from one another. Hearing from leaders like Volletta Peters (Sistering) and Leslie Gash (Toronto Shelter Network) was a powerful reminder that we are stronger when we show up together.

Grateful to stay connected, stay involved, and continue supporting women in our community.

  • 36 years ago, 14 young women were murdered at École Polytechnique for daring to learn. We say their names — and we keep fighting.

Violence against women isn’t history: ~91% of women experiencing homelessness in Canada have survived it. At Street Haven, we see the damage every day.

Remember. Act. Join the candlelight vigil — Sat, Dec 6, 6pm, Philosopher’s Walk.

  • Meet Lilly Bourani, our newest Shelter and Housing Manager!

Lilly's journey to Street Haven began when she first arrived in Canada as an immigrant. Using welcome centres and working with a case worker herself, she noticed something important—there was a real need for more services for newcomers, especially in Farsi and Arabic. That experience inspired her to start volunteering and eventually pursue her calling in social services.

"I wanted to give back," Lilly shares. Growing up in Iran, where social services for women are limited, she has always felt a strong pull towards helping women build better lives. Combined with her background in Psychology, Lilly brings both heart and expertise to her role.

For Lilly, Street Haven represents the perfect opportunity to address the challenges she once experienced as a newcomer to Toronto and to be part of an organization truly dedicated to women's wellbeing.

Welcome to the team, Lilly! We're so grateful to have you here.

  • We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in Giving Tuesday! We raised $1,496.00. It means the world that you decided to give to Street Haven.

Your generous donations will help us continue to provide crucial services for women experiencing homelessness like:

24/7 emergency shelter access

Addiction and mental health support

Pathways from transitional to permanent housing

Programs that build confidence and life skills

We couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping women rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

  • Huge thank you to the incredible team from Clio who spent their time decorating our shelter for the holidays.

You didn’t just hang lights and ribbons — you helped bring warmth, colour, and a sense of care into a space that means so much to the women who live here. Walking in and seeing their faces light up said everything.

This is what community at work really looks like: showing up, rolling up your sleeves, laughing together, and making a difference in a very real way. We are so grateful for your kindness, your energy, and your big hearts.

Thank you, Clio — you truly made our space feel like home this season. 💛🎄✨

  • Every woman deserves a place where she’s treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Your donation provides:

- A safe, warm place to sleep.

- Nutritious meals.

- Counselling for those who need it most.

- Activities to build confidence and learn life skills.

We truly could not do it without the support of our incredible donors.

And, to our followers – thank you. Thank you for following in our journey to help women rebuild their lives and letting us share our mission with the community. We see you.

If this is your first time participating in Giving Tuesday, or if you’ve given every year, we would be honoured if you chose us. Last year, we raised just over $3,800 – this year we’d like to double that! Help us reach our goal by clicking the link in our bio to donate.
