  • We are SO excited to be part of U of T’s @womensadvocacyoutreach (WAO) Women Helping Women Convention tomorrow!  💙

We truly couldn’t be more grateful for the relationship WAO has created with Street Haven. From volunteering at our shelter this past January to fundraising, WAO is an incredible group of U of T students dedicated to advocating and supporting women and women’s rights in their community and across the world.

Our Executive Director, Andrea, has been invited as a guest speaker, and all ticket proceeds go directly toward supporting our organization.

We will have a Street Haven table so come say hi, grab some info, and chat with us about what we do! With the Convention centred around intersectional grassroots advocacy, we can’t think of a better event for us to be a part of.

  • As part of Street Haven’s Employment services’ 1 year anniversary, we asked the Director of Training & Employment Services the following question:

How would you describe the impact of Street Haven’s employment services in the last year?

This is what Cynthia Lewis had to say: “I am very proud of the Employment Team and their accomplishments this year. They are innovative, adaptive and responsive in their work to provide employment supports to our clients, both within Street Haven and the broader community. There have been some great wins and it is very rewarding to see our clients find employment and move ahead in their journey. The employment program has provided us with more visibility in the community and the opportunity to make a tangible impact for our clients. Our program will only grow stronger in the next year, based on our experiences and learnings. I encourage the community to self refer to our services, participate in our programs and call on us for support! You will be happy that you took that first step.”

  • Big news at Street Haven! 🎉 We’re so proud to announce the opening of our new Training Centre. 💙

Thanks to two grants of $400,000 from the @ontrillium , we’ve launched a brand new Training Centre right inside our 87 Pembroke Street shelter, along with expanded on-site mental health services for the women we serve. Now shelter residents and clients can access education, digital literacy, job readiness supports, counselling, and mental health services all in one place, without having to navigate multiple locations or systems.

Today, the @wcg.services team made a site visit to the training centre to overlook the functioning of the space and see the team in action. The space is designed to allow clients to access digital resources, receive support in employment and training services, while encouraging them to build social connections and network with their peers.

We’re so grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for believing in this vision and helping us expand what’s possible for women experiencing homelessness in Toronto.

  • Meet @masuda8647 (Masuda Ahmed), a graduate of our Employment Services Program and a seriously talented artist! 🌟

Ever since Masuda finished her program at Street Haven, she has been brightening our office with her incredible caricature sketches, and we couldn't be prouder. Moments like these, when former clients return not just to say hi, but to share their gifts with us, remind us exactly why we do this work.

What a day! We kicked off International Women’s Day at Street Haven’s Head Office, and it was such a special celebration for our staff and clients.

This year’s theme was #GiveToGain, and it felt like the perfect reminder of what our staff do every day. They give so much of themselves in support of the women we serve, and making time to celebrate them and show our appreciation means everything to us.

We were grateful to hear from inspiring guest speaker Leslie Gash from the Toronto Shelter Network, as well as client speakers who shared heartfelt words of gratitude and powerful reflections on their journeys. Echo Wang also led a calming meditation for our team, giving everyone a moment to pause and reset.

And of course, it would not be a Street Haven celebration without something fun. We brought in @therapypuppies for puppy yoga and wrapped up the day singing our hearts out with karaoke.

A huge thank you to Yaya Foods for their generous donation of chocolate that helped sweeten the celebration. Staff and clients across our shelters are enjoying BIG Toblerone bars as part of today’s festivities.

Thank you to our incredible team for everything you give, every single day.
