  • Meet Kim, Fatima, Dera, and Jen; four members of our Housing Outreach Team 🏠

Ask any of them what a typical day looks like, and you’ll get the same answer. There isn't one.

One hour you're helping a client track down the documents she needs to apply for housing. The next you're deescalating a crisis. Then you're on the bus helping someone get their ID. Then back to emails and landlord follow-ups.

And underneath all of it: the reality that people on Ontario Works receive just $390/month toward housing. That the waitlists are long. That landlord discrimination is real. That the barriers stacked against the women they support are significant, but this team shows up anyway.

Fatima puts it like this: her work is about helping people "rescue the human soul and bring it to life."

Dera says she sees herself in the women she supports and stays because she knows what it means to need someone in your corner.

Kim says housing isn't just a roof. It's the foundation for everything else.

That's what this team carries with them every single day. We're so grateful they do. 💙

  • We walked into a career fair and walked out completely inspired. ✨

Last Friday, Street Haven showed up to the Healthcare & Social Work Career Fair at @torontomet as Gold Sponsors, and wow, did it deliver.

Hundreds of students, job seekers, employers, and educators all in one room, talking about the future of healthcare and social work. Connecting and networking.

A huge thank you to @globaleventscanada_ , George William Wilobo and Caroline Nayebare for putting together an incredible career fair.

And to every student or job seeker who swung by our table, thank you! We loved getting the opportunity to chat with so many of you. We are rooting for you all. 💛

See you at the next one!

  • To recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, we think about the Indigenous women who have used our services at Street Haven over the years. Women who came to us in crisis and left with something steadier. Women we lost touch with and still wonder about. Women who came back. Women who didn't make it. 💛

Each of them brought something with them and they left a mark on this organization and on all of us who work here. We carry them with us.

At Street Haven, we make sure Indigenous women always have access to services and supports across all our program streams: housing, shelter, mental heatlh, addictions, and training and employment programs. When an Indigenous woman needs a safe place, we have that place for her.

To those women, past, present, and the ones we haven't met yet, today is for you. 🌿

If you're in Toronto, head to Fort York National Historic Site (250 Fort York Blvd) for the Indigenous History Month Celebration, 10 AM–5 PM. First Nations, Inuit, and Métis music, food, craft markets, and cultural performances. A beautiful way to spend the longest day of the year.

  • 30 containers of soup. One room full of @sunlifeca employees. A whole lot of heart. 🍲

Yesterday, our team members Katie and Lilly got to witness something really special, a team from Sun Life Financial spending their afternoon making soup with @soup_sisters and choosing to direct every single serving to the women at Street Haven.

We got to look them in the eye and tell them exactly where their soup was going.

That moment? That's why these events matter. It's not a team-building exercise. It's connection. It's someone realizing their afternoon became someone else's warm meal on a hard day.

Soup Sisters has been doing this work for 16+ years, and we're so grateful to be part of their community 🧡

Sun Life + Soup Sisters, thank you for giving back in the most nourishing way possible.
